Loving Substack for the fertile exchange of ideas and finding kindred souls and solopreneurs. And other email providers like ConvertKit for housing landing pages and digital products. Is a balance.

Jen a very useful piece. I like the idea of startibg out using Substack as a sandbox for trying out ideas/formats and getting some feedback/ input from the community.

Great article Jen! I'm in the process of pitching myself as a speaker for an April 2025 Christian Writer's Conference to talk about Substack. When I was there last year, viritually NO ONE had heard about Substack, there is clearly a need for education to the writer's in this arena. In my pitch to the conference planners, I plan to share a link to your lovely article. Thank you for the work that you do! I plan to include you and your contact info in my workshop (if they accept me) as a resource for new authors or authors new to Substack so they can be mentored by you! HAPPY DANCE!

That's great Kat! Thanks so much. I'm so glad this was one helpful. I've seen so many questions about it I finally decided to tackle it. Let's chat soon about my upcoming talk with your group too!

I'm glad you touched on that permission/consent point that you'd mentioned in my workshop the other day. I would have never thought to even consider whether that kind of consent is a thing.

Such great minds here 😊

Yes, a bit of both and neither too much nor too often. For me, part time is fine, more avocation than occupation or vocation, perhaps some of the latter. What calls me by catching my attention, internally and externally, I listen, observe, and then on occasion, write it down and post it up. That's how I spend some time, and as long as I continue to enjoy the experiences, I'll keep telling the stories. Not exactly a burning question. What I am thinking about at the moment is a recipe for spaghetti bolognese for dinner this evening. That's how my mind works, not multi-tasking which research shows doesn't work, it's merely switching back and forth one thing to another. Classic adult ADHD.

Yep, part time seems to be working great for you Gary. Keep doing what works.

Thanks, Jen. Good mantra, “keep doing what works” and then, be grateful you can do what you’re doing.
