Let’s take the “ick” out of marketing your book.
As a professional copywriter, I’ve honed my skills in giving feedback to strengthen your writing. (And make the process more fun!)
I’m a professional copywriter, content strategist, world traveler, photographer, meditator, and 50-something creatively single woman.
To pay my bills (because being me is expensive), I write emails and websites for entrepreneurs, coaches, and nonfiction authors.
I love making fun of talking about behaviors, how we make decisions, and what makes us tick. So whether I’m writing to sell something, thinking about this newsletter, or eavesdropping on the table next to me, I think of it all as the business of being human.
We'll explore how to weave your stories into weekly emails that build more than just a list - they'll create a tribe of engaged readers. (Because life’s too short to feel like marketing your book is icky—you worked SO hard on it!)
So here’s what life looks like in this corner of the internet:
Free Subscribers:
Monday posts about growing your email list, self-care, and developing your Substack newsletter
Paid Subscribers:
Monday posts about growing your email list, self-care, and developing your Substack newsletter
Regular opportunities for a 30-minute 1:1 chat to talk about your Substack strategy
Monthly chat threads where you’ll connect with like-minded emerging authors in conversations that support you in writing consistently and feeling inspired, as well as a place where you can swap advice and stories.
Look at my Start and Grow Your Substack Session on my copywriting website. It’s for people wandering Substack lost and confused, wondering how to get started but overwhelmed with setting up the tech, deciding a name, and creating a solid strategy around goals they can comfortably achieve in the first three months. (Feel free to hit reply if you want to set up a free 30-minute discovery call and tell me what’s been holding you back.)
So here’s an ice-breaker to get to know each other… if we met at a party, I’d probably tell you about how:
🍸 In 2010, I resigned from an 8-year career at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, bought a one-way ticket to Bali, Indonesia, and stayed for three years.
🍸 I did my undergraduate degree in English Lit at Manchester College, Oxford, and after graduation, I interned at Index on Censorship, a human rights magazine in London.
🍸 As much as I love Bali, I still miss England; there’s something about riding the beleaguered British Rail System through the countryside that my soul sometimes longs for.
🍸 I’m an amateur photographer who loves photo adventures with friends, so you’ll see lots of my pictures around here.
Now, why don’t you start here and tell me about you?
Stay creative,
Jen
I am just now working on my "Introduction." Wondering--does it go on my About page or my Home page? 🤔 The short of it is--I have written a narrative nonfiction and I am seeking publication for that. Signed up on Substack to become a part of the community, and that's sure what it feels like it is. My posts on the stack give the flavor of my writing while not revealing the book's whole topic. 📖
Nice to meet you.
Oh wow, I didn't know you were a photographer. That's so cool. I'm going to use this space to give you a Shoutout . . . Special thanks to @Jen Baxter, The Skillful Scribbler, for her brilliant tutoring. She walked me through setting up my Substack page step by step, sharing her knowledge, expertise, and experience. I recommend Jen for you or someone you invited to join who may need some help getting started.
